Hidden compartment, $1.9M in cocaine found during Siskiyou County stop

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. – A traffic stop for a mechanical violation led to the discovery of 18 kilograms of suspected cocaine valued at $1.9 million and the arrest of an unlicensed driver.

According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy pulled over a 2022 Mazda CX5 on May 29. The driver was unlicensed and showed multiple criminal indicators, prompting an inventory search of the vehicle.

During the search, the deputy noticed signs of an aftermarket false compartment. The department called for assistance from a K-9 unit.

The Mount Shasta Police Department arrived with their drug detection canine, which positively alerted for the presence of narcotics. Deputies then breached the compartment and found the suspected cocaine inside.
