A Spanish startup has become one of only four companies authorised by Spain’s medicines regulator to cultivate medical cannabis, positioning itself to supply export markets in the UK and Germany from a pharmaceutical-grade indoor facility in the Ribera region of Burgos.
Taima Growth received its cultivation licence from the Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (AEMPS) after more than seven years of development.
As part of this lengthy process, Taima was required to have pre-agreed contracts with authorised importers in destination countries, a qualified technical team and compliant facilities in place before the regulator would act.
“The process has been very difficult, but we have achieved it,” said Mo Alyasini, the company’s founder and Chief Executive.
Before commercial sales can begin, Taima must complete validation of three production batches that demonstrate full homogeneity and consistency in accordance with AEMPS standards. Once cleared, the company intends to export dried cannabis flower to importers in the UK and Germany, the two largest established markets for medical cannabis in Europe, and already the destination for the majority of Spain’s licensed cannabis production.
