Strange Routing? French customs seize 2.5 tonnes of cannabis bound for Libya

Yes you read that correctly, one would have thought it would have been the other way round as this article highlights.

French customs have seized 2.5 tonnes of cannabis resin hidden inside a shipping container bound for Libya.

The shipment was concealed within specially built metal compartments inside heavy construction equipment. Officials said the container had left Senegal and arrived at the port of Le Havre before it was due to continue to Libya.

Inspectors flagged the container because of its unusual route and scanned it using X-ray equipment, revealing structural irregularities. Customs teams then spent several hours opening reinforced sections before discovering the drugs.

Authorities described the concealment method as highly sophisticated, adding that large cannabis seizures at Le Havre are less common than cocaine interceptions at the port.

The seizure follows another operation months earlier in which about one tonne of cannabis was confiscated, suggesting trafficking networks are increasingly using commercial shipping routes and unconventional methods to hide drugs.
