The UK Home Office has just quietly narrowed the UK’s medical cannabis supply chain.
New guidance issued to licenced importers/distributors of #CBPMs on #GMP certification requirements, sets out (in unusually clear terms) what will and won’t be accepted as evidence that an exporting site meets manufacturing standards:
✅ Preferred: EUDRA GMDP-listed certificates.
👌 Acceptable (if not on EUDRA): a GMP certificate issued by a competent national authority – including a third country’s regulator certifying a site elsewhere (Home Office example: Australia’s authority certifying a Canadian company).
❌ Not Acceptable: a UK importer’s own assurance that a site has been “assessed to GMP standards”; GMP-equivalent certificates from private assessment companies; or a domestic Controlled Drug licence.
I call it “new guidance”, but this is not new law. GMP certification for the finished CBPM supply chain has always been the requirement. This guidance suggests the Home Office is going to stop looking the other way, closing the practical workaround GACP-only flower supply chains have been relying on.
