Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula opened a 50-space RV park this week, combining casino gambling, sports betting and legal cannabis access in one compact footprint.
The park sits just west of the casino’s main entrance on Michigan Highway 72, adjacent to the Turtle Creek Market and a Mobil gas station. Each space includes full hookups for electric, water, sewer and trash disposal, and a shuttle runs to the casino for guests who prefer not to walk.
Why RVs unlock cannabis access
Michigan’s recreational cannabis law, approved by voters in a 2018 statewide referendum, requires that consumption occur only on private property. Hotel rooms do not qualify, but RVs do. That distinction gives RV park guests something hotel guests at Turtle Creek cannot get: legal use of products from Beach Fire Cannabis, the tribe’s dispensary less than 200 feet from the park. The dispensary sells recreational cannabis to adults 21 and older.
Casino floor and sportsbook open at 18
The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, which owns and operates Turtle Creek, allows gamblers as young as 18 onto the casino floor. The 56,000-square-foot gaming space offers more than 1,000 slot machines, 40 table games and a Caesars Sportsbook. For context, Detroit’s three commercial casinos require patrons to be 21. Several other Michigan tribal properties, including Bay Mills, Island Resort, Kewadin Casinos and Soaring Eagle, also permit 18-year-olds to gamble. Booking a hotel room at Turtle Creek, however, still requires a guest to be at least 21.
