As the legal international cannabis industry becomes increasingly interconnected, Brazil continues to be a top market for cannabis imports from other countries. With an estimated population of roughly 213.5 million, Brazil has a much larger population than any of its South American continental peers. Nearly half of all South Americans reside in Brazil.
Medical cannabis therapies are now available in an estimated 85% of Brazilian municipalities. Over 55,000 doctors and qualified professionals have prescribed cannabis-based medications in Brazil since 2019. Much of the market in Brazil still relies on imported medical cannabis products.
“The number of authorizations for importing cannabis-based products for medicinal use grew by 29% in Brazil in the first half of 2026. Between January and June, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) authorized 116,372 imports, according to a survey conducted by Cannect based on data obtained through the Access to Information Law (LAI).” reported 082 NOTÍCIAS in its local coverage.
“The result represents a significant expansion compared to the same period in 2025, when approximately 15,000 authorizations were registered monthly, on average. This year, the average was close to 20,000 requests per month.” the outlet also reported.
According to market analysts at digital platform Kaya Mind, Brazil’s legal medical cannabis market is set to experience tremendous growth in the coming years. Kaya Mind is a Brazilian market intelligence and data consultancy focused on the nation’s emerging cannabis industry.
“The medicinal cannabis market continues to expand strongly in Brazil. In 2025, the sector generated R$ 970.9 million and registered approximately 873,000 patients in treatment, a growth of about 30% compared to the previous year. The expectation is that this segment will reach an economic potential of R$ 9.5 billion in the coming years.” wrote Fala Você Notícias about Kaya Mind’s analysis.
