I love the subtext of shock when law enforcement, politicians, business and media see individuals using tried and tested marketing methods for their own particular market…why wouldn’t they?
SEPTEMBER 11–In a marketing effort to secure repeat business, a Minnesota drug dealer issued discount “loyalty cards” to customers who purchased magic mushrooms and other narcotics from him, according to a felony complaint.
During an undercover operation, Andi Selencia, 27, last month allegedly sold an agent psilocybin mushrooms and said he was “heading to Oregon and Colorado to obtain more product,” cops charge.
During surveillance of Selencia, investigators stopped suspected customers and recovered THC concentrates and cannabis flower. They also found that Selencia (seen at right) “would provide individuals with loyalty cards with the name ‘flowerdaddy’ on them.”
Court filings not indicate how many patrons participated in the loyalty program, or how much of a savings or what rewards were offered.
After allegedly agreeing to sell two pounds of magic mushrooms and a pound of marijuana bud to an undercover officer, Selencia was arrested this week. Subsequent searches of residences associated with Selencia (and his Honda Civic) turned up large stashes of hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana products, cash, digital scales, and a pistol.
“Law enforcement also found ‘flowerdady’ loyalty cards,” reported Sgt. Matthew Huettl. Selencia’s operation was headquartered just outside the campus of Minnesota State University in Mankato, a city about 75 miles from Minneapolis.
Selencia has been charged with seven felony drug counts, two of which carry maximum sentences of 40 years in prison (and mandatory minimums of 86 months in custody). While a judge yesterday set Selencia’s bail at $200,000, a prosecutor noted that the alleged dealer was an Albanian citizen who is the subject of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer and arrest warrant “indicating he is removable under US immigration law.”
