Australia: Smuggling Weed In The Time Of Coronavirus – Profit & Risk Are Up

In countries like Australia where we still live in a world of the war on drugs both risk and profits are skyrocketing in the world of weed smuggling.

Here’s a story from Qld’s Brisbane Times today

A man has been caught with allegedly $450,000 worth of cannabis at the Gold Coast border checkpoint.

Police claim the 31-year-old was found with 93 kilograms of cannabis and $4300 in cash on Wednesday afternoon.

The Palm Beach man was arrested on the Pacific Highway at Tugan when police stopped a Ford Ranger utility with a trailer trying to enter Queensland.

He was arrested and charged with the possession of dangerous drugs and the possession of property suspected of being used in connection with a drug offence.

He has been bailed to appear at the Coolangatta Magistrates Court on July 6.

The man was also fined $1334 for breaching the Chief Health Officer’s restriction directions.

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said any person attempting to enter our state, including Queensland residents, should expect a heightened level of scrutiny.

“In addition to the current biosecurity risks, police will remain vigilant to disrupt any criminal activity,” he said.

Meanwhile in Sydney

Police conducting a vehicle stop in Sydney’s south-west have allegedly discovered 65 kilograms of cannabis stashed inside a number of arcade machines being transported in the back of a truck.

The bust forms part of a lengthy investigation by detectives who have been tracking an alleged crime syndicate operating in Sydney since last year.

Police claim they had been tipped off to the commercial supply of prohibited drugs and after extensive investigations arrested a 39-year-old man during a vehicle stop at Casula on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers searched the Pantech truck and allegedly located 65 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside four arcade machines
