A Case For Inspector Barnaby ! Didcot Oxfordshire – Youths Are Smoking Cannabis On Park Benches..

A slow news week for the Oxford Mail if this is the best they can come up with.

Repeated reports of people smoking cannabis in public have prompted a community warning.

Thames Valley Police said the activity is regularly taking place on benches and in a shelter near the field by the Southern Community Centre on Great Western Park, in Didcot.

While some residents may consider cannabis use a “minor” problem, officers say that smoking the drug in public can have a wider impact on the community.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Cannabis remains a Class B controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

“Possession of cannabis and the public use of cannabis may constitute criminal offences, and police have powers to take enforcement action where appropriate.

“While some may view cannabis use as a minor issue, smoking cannabis in public spaces can have a significant impact on the wider community.

“The smell can travel considerable distances, particularly during periods of hot weather when residents have windows and doors open.

“This can affect families enjoying their gardens, children playing outdoors and residents who simply wish to enjoy their homes without being subjected to drug-related activity.

“Repeated incidents can also contribute to concerns around anti-social behaviour and make public spaces feel less welcoming for others.”

Police are encouraging members of the public to report any incidents of cannabis use in the area, including details such as the time and date, descriptions of those involved, and any other relevant information.
