Individuals interested in becoming Registered Qualifying Patients or Personal Caregivers with the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission’s (Commission) Medical Use of Marijuana Program can now access registration and renewal forms in Spanish and Portuguese. The translated documents are available for download via the Commission’s website New Patients, Renewing Patients, and New Caregivers pages, or from the public documents webpage.
To enroll in the Medical Use of Marijuana Program, you must be a resident of Massachusetts who is at least 18 years old, and you must receive a written recommendation from a Certifying Healthcare Provider that identifies a qualifying medical condition. Children and youth under age 18 may register with the program; however, their parent or guardian must approve their medical cannabis use, and they must be certified by two Certifying Physicians, one of whom must be a pediatrician or pediatric specialist. Their parent or guardian will be identified as their Personal Caregiver.
Personal Caregivers assist Registered Qualifying Patients with their use of medical marijuana including transporting a Patient to and from a Medical Marijuana Treatment Center; obtaining and transporting marijuana on behalf of a Patient; preparing marijuana for consumption by a Patient; and administering marijuana to a Patient. A Patient may designate up to two Personal Caregivers.
