Argentinian Govt Closes Regulatory Agency for the Hemp and Medical Cannabis Industry (ARICCAME). Says it was, “oversized and expensive.”

Media Report

The national government decided to dissolve the Regulatory Agency for the Hemp and Medical Cannabis Industry (ARICCAME), created as a decentralized organization, arguing that its structure was oversized and expensive.

Horacio Lagos, NOA Cannabis Self-Growers representative, in dialogue with Professional he maintained that the news did not take them by surprise but “it had already been rumored”, but he was concerned about all the work they have been doing on the “certified seed registry, unique in the world with 60 varieties”.

“There are nearly 800 producers who presented the plant genetic improvement development project, where time and economic resources were invested, but the truth is that bureaucratization continues, the plant is stigmatized and people will continue growing”, he said.

In this sense, he regretted that the country is not moving forward with concrete steps for its regularization, while stating “there are no large laboratories here, there are people who are passionate about cultivation and who are betting that sooner or later the plant will become over legislation”.

“In Salta we have producers who have their doors open to export and are processing the certifications that each country requires to enter the pharmaceutical market. I hope Argentina does not miss this opportunity”, he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Deregulation and Transformation of the State, Federico Sturzenegger, explained that “from now on, ANMAT will be in charge of medicinal cannabis, in the same way that it regulates the rest of the medicinal drugs, the Ministry of Industry will regulate hemp for industrial purposes, and the Ministry of Agriculture will regulate the part of the seeds and plant propagation of the Cannabis plant”.
