DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Under supervision, provides analysis and/or recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the Department. Duties include, but are not limited to: representing the Department in administrative hearings; assisting with regulatory enforcement actions; conducting case settlement conferences; managing administrative cases; providing analysis and recommendations on laws, regulations, liability, and litigation; drafting and reviewing contracts and leases; assisting program divisions in the development of rules and regulations; acting as the moderator for public hearings involving proposed rules; providing training on various topics; acting as a liaison with the Office of the Attorney General and coordinating agency work in formal legal proceedings; and performing other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity (must obtain Law license).
NOTE: A law school transcript, resume, writing sample (not to exceed 10 pages), and cover letter must be submitted with the State Application. Failure to submit these documents may result in ineligibility for this specific position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:
- Previous experience working with a state or federal government agency.
- Previous experience with cannabis law, agriculture law, regulatory enforcement, or commercial leasing.
