Australian Financial Review Article: Swisse owner hopes China’s ‘clean green’ love affair extends to hemp

Two executives from the Hong Kong-listed owner of Swisse vitamins have joined the board of ASX cannabis company Bod Australia after a $7 million injection, as the group bets the ”clean and green” lustre that delivered big growth in China in vitamins and infant formula will spill over into hemp healthcare products.Bod Australia chief executive Jo Patterson said on Tuesday the 17.6 per cent stake that Health & Happiness Ltd now owns in Bod Australia after a placement of 14.9 million shares was a ”vote of confidence” as the group eyes the big China market.

Bod Australia says once the China market fully opens up for cannabis and hemp extracts it will dwarf every other market.  AFR

“China is definitely the big play,” Ms Patterson said.

She said there was still some ”grey” area around regulations in China for medicinal cannabis healthcare products, but the same ”clean and green” image Chinese consumers had embraced in demand for Australian vitamins and infant formula would transfer to cannabis and hemp products such as nutraceuticals, skincare and tinctures.

“When China does open up, it will certainly dwarf any other market,” Ms Patterson said. “They look to that clean and green.”
