Medicinal Cannabis Council Australia (MCCA) has unveiled its inaugural seven-member board.
The group was formed following the merger of industry bodies Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA) and the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA), and had been in a transitional phase as it waited to elect its new board of directors.
The successful candidates were selected following a 24-hour voting window involving 18 nominees and are as follows:
Ean Alexander, Phoebe Macleod and Sharon Bentley were elected as industry directors; Dr Priya Ayyar and Nicholas Ravenswood as healthcare practitioner directors; Geoff Bloom as independent director; and Lucy Haslam as patient advocate director.
MCCA said its new board would meet shortly to appoint a chair and define its “strategic priorities for the remainder of 2026”.
Current transitional co-chairs Kristin Viccars and Dr Teresa Nicoletti have ruled themselves out of applying for the chair position.
A full-time chief executive for the group is expected to be announced within the next two weeks.
