2025-10-20 | In focus checks by Bremen police since 2023, a total of 1,655 violations were detected, according to butenunbinnen. The majority of offenders were under the influence of drugs, particularly cannabis, while drivers under alcohol influence were now in the minority.
Of the 42 controls conducted, 986 cases involved drug use (including cannabis, without alcohol), 669 with alcohol. Daily patrol checks are not included, but police reports confirm that cannabis is most frequently detected.
The police warn of underestimated risks in road traffic. The partial legalization of cannabis and the increase of the THC limit to 3.5 ng/ml in 2024 apparently led to public consumption being increasingly perceived as a minor offense. Police spokesperson Nils Matthiesen emphasized that the controlled cases likely represent only the tip of the iceberg.
