CALIFORNIA Rio-Dell-Draft-Marijuana-Ordinance

Press Update 18 January 2017

PRESS REPORT   19  Jan 2017

The Rio Dell City Council on Tuesday evening held the first reading of amendments to the inspection and permitting sections of the city’s commercial medical marijuana ordinance, discussed the Safe Routes to Schools Project and also approved appointments to commissions and committees.

If approved, the amended commercial medical cannabis land use regulations would make quarterly on-site compliance inspections by appropriate city officials mandatory.

“These are really minor amendments in nature,” community development director Kevin Caldwell said.

Under the proposed amendment, conditionally permitted applicants must apply for a permit renewal 45 days before the existing permit expires and they will have to annually pay a renewal fee and operation fee. If approved upon second reading, the conditional-use permits will be nontransferable to other locations or owners. The amendment also lays out the process to change sites, owners and modify facilities.

The original regulations were passed last year and allow for medical marijuana indoor growing only in the Eel River sawmill site across the Eel River north of the city.

The council unanimously approved the amendment and the second reading will be held during the next meeting.
