Canada’s Medical Cannabis Export Markets

They write…

Canada’s top cannabis export destination in 2017? Germany.

Cannabis Wire obtained data from Health Canada that showed that when it comes to both dried cannabis and cannabis oil products, more medical and research-grade cannabis landed in Germany than in any of the other 10 countries receiving exported Canadian cannabis.

As far as dried cannabis products go, Germany received nearly all of it — more than 520 kilograms (or 1,146 pounds) — while the next country down, Czech Republic, received just over 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds).

With oils, Germany was still on top, with more than 183 liters (48 gallons), but Australia was a close second, with just over 158 liters (42 gallons).

Unlike in the U.S., Canadian cannabis companies can export products, but only for scientific or medical purposes. With this advantage, Canadian companies are going global in a way that U.S. companies are not easily able to.

So, with that permission, how much cannabis did Canadian companies export in 2017, and where? Check out this data Cannabis Wire compiled from Health Canada:

47: Export permits for dried cannabis

  • Germany – 520.855 kg
  • Israel – 205 kg
  • Australia – 202.5 kg
  • Czech Republic – 1.2 kg

99: Export permits for cannabis oil products

  • Brazil – 3.65 L
  • Cayman islands – 26.52 L
  • Chile – 8.25 L
  • Croatia – 40.05 L
  • Cyprus – 6.15  L
  • Germany – 183.375 L
  • New Zealand – 8.95 L
  • Australia – 158.12 L
