Position: Cannabis Law Partner
Location: Boston, MA

Role Overview
The firm seeks an experienced Cannabis Law Partner to lead regulatory, transactional, and compliance matters in the rapidly evolving cannabis industry. The ideal candidate combines deep knowledge of cannabis law with strong client development skills, leadership experience, and a client-first approach.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advise cannabis businesses on state and federal compliance, licensing, zoning, and operational requirements.
  • Negotiate and close deals including M&A, joint ventures, financing, real estate, and strategic partnerships in the cannabis sector.
  • Act as outside counsel for cannabis operators on governance, shareholder matters, contracts, and risk management.
  • Build and expand a personal book of business; maintain strong relationships with industry clients and investors; collaborate with BD and marketing teams on targeted initiatives.
  • Mentor and supervise associates; foster knowledge sharing, training, and process improvement; contribute to partner-level strategy and lateral integration.
  • Ensure all matters are staffed and managed efficiently; maintain best-in-class work product while navigating complex regulatory risk.
  • Publish, present, and actively participate in cannabis industry associations to elevate the firm’s market presence.

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; strong academic record
  • Active Massachusetts Bar membership (or eligibility to waive in/reciprocity)
  • 8+ years of significant cannabis law, regulatory, or corporate transactional experience at an AmLaw, leading regional, or boutique firm
  • Demonstrated client origination and retention; portable book of ~$750k+ (flexible for compelling candidates)
  • Proven first-chair responsibility advising cannabis operators and investors on complex business and regulatory matters
  • Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary issues (corporate, real estate, regulatory, and compliance)
  • Strong communication, leadership, and business acumen

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive partner compensation, typically $300,000 – $1,500,000, commensurate with book and performance

Pay: $300,000.00 – $1,500,000.00 per year
