Cannabis Real Estate Development – Regulatory, Licensing and Public Affairs Attorney Position

Cannabis real estate and licensing company looking to hire an experienced regulatory, licensing and public affairs attorney to lead ballot initiative efforts, handle local and state marijuana licensing files/applications and public affairs matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and execute petition drives introducing cannabis ordinances throughout the State of Michigan and other emerging markets.
  • Oversee campaigns to educate communities and collect signatures supporting the adoption/approval of local cannabis ordinances.
  • Ensure that committees, petition drives and campaign management adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Serve as point of contact for state and local agencies, city councils and other industry professionals on behalf of the company.
  • Work with vendors for petition drive materials, the creation and distribution of campaign marketing material.
  • Manage and execute ballot committees and campaign finance reports.

· Conduct post-campaign evaluation and identifying successful and unsuccessful elements.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of new and existing regulations that may impact internal processes and industry compliance.
  • Understand and monitor local ordinances, state laws and other regulations in Michigan and other emerging markets.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships within the industry as well as local and state personnel.
  • Provide details of various regulations, procedures, and/or policies to employees and stakeholders as necessary.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, hearings and briefings as necessary to advocate on behalf of the company and the industry.
  • Maintain municipal and state licensing files, adhering to strict timelines.
  • Handle municipal and state license application process from start to finish.
  • Act as a liaison between the company and municipal and state agencies throughout the application process.
  • Attend local meetings as needed, throughout the application process.

Qualifications:

  • 3 + years Relevant Experience
  • JD + significant industry and/or related experience
  • Licensed and member in good standing with state bar
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Stellar advocacy skills
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be able to manage files, deadlines and other time sensitive matters
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work proactively and independently, troubleshoot, and work well under pressure.
  • Must be able to identify and solve problems and work well in a collaborative environment.
  • Significant industry knowledge
  • Experience in Government policy, regulations and lobbying strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly excel

Salary: $100,000. – $150,000.00

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • On call
  • Weekend availability

Experience:

  • Attorneys: 3 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Bar (Preferred)
