Cannabis worth almost $700,000 seized, man charged after vehicle stop near Yass

A man will face court today after police seized cannabis plants worth almost $7000,000 during a vehicle stop near Yass yesterday.

Traffic and Highway Patrol officers from Yass stopped a truck on the Hume Highway, Bookham, about 4:30pm yesterday (Friday 14 August 2026), for roadside testing.

The driver – a 32-year-old man – allegedly returned a positive indication for methylamphetamine, and inquiries established his driver’s licence had been cancelled.

Police will allege 139 cannabis plants, with an estimated potential street value of $695,000, were found when the truck was searched.

The man was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station where he was charged with three offences,

• Supply cannabis (greater than indictable amount and less than commercial quantity)

• Unlawfully possess Australian driver licence, and

• Drive while licence cancelled.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today on (Saturday 15th August 2026).
