Well blow me down with a feather …who’d have known !
Here’s the introduction to the piece
MediGreen proprietor Angelica Rostov has witnessed unethical behaviour in the medicinal cannabis industry going unchecked for too long. And that’s not just bad news for patients…
There are many cannabis prescribing doctors and clinics who do an amazing job helping countless patients. Unfortunately, there are also clinics, doctors and pharmacists who regard medicinal cannabis as a money-grabbing exercise, putting profits – instead of patients – first. As a health professional, it is very distressing to see this happening.
There have been discussions regarding a code of conduct for medicinal cannabis prescribers. Although still a work in progress, our medical authorities can do something to make things work. A strong framework should be introduced for every industry operator (new or experienced) to reinforce that code of conduct.
Open prescriptions have been a point of discussion for a long time, with official bodies including the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) emphasising they are not valid prescriptions.
Yet we still have doctors writing things like “RX Indica flower THC 25% to 33% 10gm, with repeats”.
I would like to ask these prescribers: “Would you write a prescription for Oxycodone 5mg to 15mg and leave it for the patient and pharmacist to decide what strength should be dispensed for them?”
