CCB Weekly Update: December 1, 2025: Age-gating & Websites / CCB wants to remind all licensees that the use of Leafly, Weedmaps, or any other third-party cannabis platform for promotional purposes is considered advertising

Reminder: Age-gating is required for websites

The CCB would like to remind all cannabis establishments that their business websites must be age-gated, as required by CCB Rule 2.2.11(d).

This means visitors to any page of your website must first confirm they are at least 21 years of age.

Because the mandatory health warning must also be displayed on retailer websites, the CCB Advertising Committee recommends, as a best practice, that the health warning appear within the same pop-up window used for age confirmation.

The CCB recently conducted an audit of every licensed retailer website and found that 55 out of 110 websites did not adequately age-gate store menu pages and other drop-down links that can be accessed external to a website home page. The CCB will be conducting a follow up audit within the coming weeks, and websites found to be out of compliance may be subject to enforcement.

Notice about Weedmaps, Leafly, and other third-party cannabis platforms

The CCB wants to remind all licensees that the use of Leafly, Weedmaps, or any other third-party cannabis platform for promotional purposes is considered advertising.

Licensees who wish to use these sites to promote their business or their products must first have their advertisement pre-approved by the CCB. Advertisements can be submitted for approval at ccb.advertising@vermont.gov.
