SB 557 requires that at least one of the nine OLCC commissioners hold a producer, processor, retail, or wholesale license.
The bill still needs to pass the House and be signed by the Governor, but with such strong bipartisan support, we’re very optimistic about its chances (knock on wood!).
If SB 557 becomes law it will be a huge milestone for our industry. Adding a commissioner who truly understands how policy decisions affect cannabis operations can only help ensure fair regulation, smart policy, and the promise of this developing industry’s economic growth are realized.
A huge thank you to the CIAO policy committee and everyone who prioritized and pushed for this bill—Oregon’s cannabis community is grateful! Hopefully, this is a sign that there are many more good things to come this legislative session.
