COMPLIANCE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

The Compliance Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with California cannabis regulations, policies, and procedures, reviewing, and supporting standard operating procedures (SOPs), and assisting with employee training in our production facilities. The Compliance Manager will support ongoing operations, working closely with leadership to continuously improve operations. This role will develop key relationships with other departments including, but not limited to: Production/ Manufacturing, Marketing, Fulfillment, Distribution, Operations and others. Qualified individuals will demonstrate several years’ experience as a compliance leader in a highly regulated industry, such as cannabis production, food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or alcohol beverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports all cannabis activity in the METRC Track & Trace system that pertains to the intake, processing, packaging, labeling, and waste of cannabis and cannabis products.
  • Assists Fulfillment with routine audits of inventory quantities and compares the results with the state METRC Track & Trace system; investigates and corrects any discrepancies.
  • Acts as METRC Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provides guidance and training and development internal counterparts.
  • Maintain thorough and up to date knowledge of California State cannabis laws and regulations.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits at all processing facilities
  • Proactively and professionally communicate, develop, and maintain relationships with State regulators and inspectors.
  • Acts as a liaison with official agencies and maintains respectful relationships.
  • Review all marketing materials for compliance with state laws.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures and assist in developing and monitoring state-specific Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing.
  • Continuously monitor the policies and SOP’s implementation efficiency and consistency and conduct regular training for all employees.
  • Communicate Compliance-related issues and guidance to employees in a clear, easy to understand, urgent and effective manner.
  • All compliance related activities will be reported to the compliance director and compliance team.
  • Can routinely support and provide information to all vendors and clients who need additional support in cannabis compliance.
  • Oversee and manage CAPA’s (Corrective and Preventative Actions) for compliance incidents and work with operational teams to correct and document non-conformance.
  • Monitor sustainment of corrective actions for external audit events.
  • Using Compliance Audit checklist, perform periodic reviews of procedures, forms, logs.
  • Maintains an inventory of tag, labels, and other supplies necessary for Track & Trace.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age to apply.
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ compliance experience in highly-regulated industry – Strongly prefer Cannabis Industry experience.
  • Specific experience in cannabis cultivation/manufacturing operations strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading inspections and completing corrective action plans.
  • Must have the ability to teach, coach and present updated compliance regulations or changes in a group or individual setting.
  • Cannabis Compliance experience: 1.5 years to 2 years of experience
  • Must have METRC Experience: 1.5 years to 2 years of experience in cannabis manufacturing and Distribution; If out of state experience, then 3 years minimum experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills for physical and digital record retention
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Advanced Math Skills
  • Must be highly detailed orientated.
  • Strong understanding of BCC & CDPH regulations
  • General Understanding of FDA regulations
  • Must be able to thoroughly read and understand the contents of a Certificate of Analysis (COA)
  • Must independently be able to implement, write and produce batch records of all kinds within or above regulation standards.
  • General knowledge of workplace health and safety standards
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Advanced MS Office and Excel as well as Google Docs skills required.
  • Results-driven and task-oriented.
  • Prioritize under pressure and ability to identify and solve key roadblocks
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally at all levels of the organization as well as with state regulators, vendors, and outside stakeholders.

  • This is a full-time onsite position located in Arcata, CA.
  • A Livescan Background Check will be required.
  • You must be 21 years or older to qualify for this position.
  • You must have a valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
