A cannabis dispensary in Garden River First Nation is eyeing a potential reopening later this month after a pair of poisonings that left one person dead and another hospitalized.
Little Green Garden has set a tentative reopening date of July 20 while ownership awaits test results from Health Canada, according to a post made on social media yesterday.
“We have taken it upon ourselves to contract a testing facility that has the same testing equipment and standards as Health Canada in the hopes that they are able to expedite the results to confirm the safety of our products,” the post said.
As previously reported by SooToday, Anishinabek Police Service issued a drug alert for Garden River First Nation last month following reports of two suspected overdoses.
The two incidents happened on different dates at separate locations, according to police.
Several people reportedly consumed what they believed to be cannabis from a bong at a residence. One person who consumed from the bong died after being transported to hospital with symptoms consistent with an overdose.
Another person was hospitalized with seizures and symptoms consistent with an overdose after a number of people reportedly consumed what they believed to be cannabis from a bong at a separate residence, according to police.
Anishinabek Police Service has requested a rush on the testing of the cannabis to make sure it’s safe, but Little Green Garden says police have yet to receive any new information from Health Canada.
Updates will continue to be posted to the dispensary’s social media as ownership receives more information.
“We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all of our loyal customers who have reached out to us throughout this,” ownership said on social media.
“Everyone who has checked in and spoken out in support of our dedication to safe, high-quality products means a lot to us. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.”
Little Green Garden did not respond to messages left by SooToday requesting comment.
