Emerald Dispensaries Aren’t Happy With CAURD

Here’s their letter

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dear Governor,
I am writing to you today to discuss a matter of utmost importance – the Conditional Adult Use Recreational Dispensary Program (CAURD). I implore you to consider the far-reaching implications that the failure of this program could have on not only its applicants and licensees but also on the lives of countless individuals residing in our state.
There are hundreds of families facing real financial loss or worse; the prospect of bankruptcy due to their reliance on this deeply troubled business initiative.
This program was designed with the intention of correcting some of the harm inflicted on the applicants through the prohibition of cannabis but we now find ourselves in a position where we are being harmed anew. While the conditional cultivators and processors were modified into the MRTA we, the justice-involved, have been neglected and left exposed to great harm.
We humbly ask that you advocate for a special legislative session in which CAURD will be codified, safeguarding those who have invested their livelihoods in the success of this program and industry. Members of our community, under your guidance, were assured the opportunity not only to attain financial stability but also a chance for generational prosperity. The collapse of this program would shatter their aspirations and erode the fragile trust they have placed in the state’s leadership.
Economic growth within our communities is also at stake. It is important to recognize that our community extends far beyond the immediate circle of invested stakeholders. Through your legislative support of this program you will be ensuring that New York citizens have access to a well-regulated market and are shielded from the potential hazards associated with the illicit products that continue to persist in communities across our great state.
Governor, I earnestly urge you to contemplate the immense repercussions that the collapse of this program would inflict upon our state. The mental and financial well-being of our invested citizens, the economic vitality of our communities, and the reputation of New York are all inextricably linked to your attention to this matter. We faithfully look to your leadership to make this program’s success exemplary not just for New York but other states in our nation looking to correct the harm inflicted on its citizens.
Warm regards,
New York CAURD Coalition
Vice President of Operations
