Ex-mayor of Texas border city gets 3 years for aiding cocaine ring

‘I am not asking you to forgive me,’ Arturo Aleman told a federal judge. He’s the latest public figure in Progreso to be brought to justice in the case.

A former mayor of Progreso has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for his part in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy that involved other public officials in the Texas border city.

A federal judge in Brownsville ordered Arturo Aleman, 43, to serve 33 months in prison and pay a $10,000 fine, ValleyCentral.com reported.

“I am sorry. I am not asking you to forgive me … I did this to myself,” Aleman told U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr., according to a report by Dave Hendricks, a reporter/producer for CBS 4 News and Valley Central.com.
