Jeffrey Schultz has joined Foley Hoag LLP as a partner in its Business Department and Cannabis Industry practice, where he will focus on corporate and securities law matters, early company financings, and state-law cannabis regulatory matters. He is resident in the firm’s New York office.
Schultz was previously general counsel, CCO and partner at Navy Capital – one of the largest and longest-tenured private funds dedicated to investing in the cannabis industry.
“The cannabis industry is an area of strategic focus at Foley Hoag, which is nationally recognized as one of the top cannabis law firms,” said Cannabis practice Co-Chair Jesse Alderman. “Jeff is one of the leading practitioners in New York, a market poised to expand in the years ahead. His depth of experience will prove to be a tremendous asset to our Cannabis practice and its clients. We welcome him to the team.”
Schultz also advises cannabis industry operators on M&A and capital raising, banking laws, state-law cannabis compliance, corporate governance, intellectual property matters and strategic partnerships. Beyond traditional legal advice, he uses his cannabis industry expertise and extensive network to assist companies of all sizes, from start-up to publicly traded businesses, to develop creative and efficient financing solutions, turn-around initiatives, and strategic growth initiatives.
Foley Hoag has been at the forefront of the medical and adult-use cannabis industry since the very early stages of its regulation and legalization in specific states. Its leading, full-service Cannabis practice assists cannabis and cannabis-related operators and investors with all aspects of their business. The practice is national and international in scope, and has represented cannabis clients in transactions in many U.S. states and Canada.
In September 2022, Foley Hoag was named the Best Cannabis Law Firm in the Benzinga Cannabis Awards, held during Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference 2022. The award is given to the law firm that “best understands the legal landscape in cannabis in the US and beyond.” Also in 2022, the firm was named to the shortlist for recognition as Cannabis Law Firm of the Year by Chambers USA Awards.
Previously, Schultz was a partner in the New York office of Feuerstein Kulick. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctorate from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
