Timothy Grace, 40, was arrested after officers responded to Callaghan’s Bar on the 500 block of South Main Street in Greensburg for reports of an intoxicated man with an injured bird, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.
Police arrived and found Grace heavily intoxicated, and he admitted the parakeet belonged to him, authorities said.
Another patron was holding the bird on their shoulder when officers arrived, and the parakeet appeared to have a broken leg, investigators said.
Officers learned Grace had transported the bird to the bar by placing it in his pocket, according to the report.
Police took possession of the parakeet and transported it to a local animal hospital for treatment. Veterinarians determined the bird had a broken leg and was underweight and weak, authorities said.
Grace is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, cruelty to animals, neglect of animals, and transporting animals in a cruel manner.
His case will proceed through Westmoreland County court.
