Federal Council Pushes for Clarifications on Medical Cannabis and Price Regulation

26-01-30 | In its statement on the draft bill to further develop pharmacy provision, the Bundesrat calls for several amendments relevant to medical cannabis. The basis is the decisions of the plenary session of 26-01-30.

The chamber of the federal states wants it clarified that cannabis flowers and products made from them for medical purposes continue to qualify as medicinal products within the meaning of the Medicinal Products Act (Arzneimittelgesetz) even after being removed from narcotics law. This is intended to ensure nationwide, uniform treatment under medicinal product law.

In addition, the Bundesrat suggested explicitly stipulating that the Arzneimittelpreisverordnung applies to medical cannabis in order to avoid inconsistent pricing by pharmacies. Furthermore, the chamber advocated stricter rules for mail-order trade.
