If the Germans are doing it, it really doesn’t give me much confidence about any other jurisdiction.
StratCann have the story
First, in a letter dated August 26, 2025, an international law firm issued a warning to Remexian Pharma GmbH, accusing them of distributing cannabis cultivars in Germany’s medical cannabis market under identical marketing authorization numbers and drug names, despite these referring to different strains or cultivars.
The letter also alleges the cannabis products are irradiated, something German regulations impose tight restrictions on. A permit is required to distribute irradiated medical cannabis products in Germany. In 2019, Aurora had to temporarily halt cannabis shipments to Germany while it awaited such a permit.
The letter was sent by the International law firm Hogan Lovells on behalf of its client Vayamed GmbH, another German pharmaceutical company that also specializes in medicinal cannabis products and services.
Following that letter, the Cansativa Group, a company that operates a central platform for the distribution of medicinal cannabis products in Germany, issued a letter to the pharmacies it services, stating that it would no longer carry Remexian products.
The letter references the same concerns as the letter from Hogan Lovells, alleging that Remexian had marketed various cannabis flowers under the same approval number, but with different cultivars, in contravention of the German Medicines Act.
“To ensure a legally compliant and reliable supply, we no longer distribute Remexian products. At the same time, we ensure that sufficient alternative, properly approved medical cannabis products are available,” states the letter, in part.
StratCann was forwarded similar letters sent by other companies offering the same kinds of services. Germany’s Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, or the Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte (BfArM) was unable to provide comment.
Canada’s High Tide Inc. recently announced that it is planning to enter the German medical cannabis market by signing a definitive agreement to acquire 51% of Remexian Pharma GmbH. On September 2, High Tide closed on its acquisition of a majority stake in Remexian.
On behalf of both High Tide and Remexian, Omar Khan, Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer for High Tide, told StratCann they have confidence that the company is adhering to all applicable regulations.
