Baden-Baden resident wins lawsuit for 125,000 euros from failed cannabis investment

2025-10-31 | An 81-year-old investor from Baden-Baden has won a lawsuit at the district court for repayment of the 125,000 euros he invested in a Swiss cannabis project in 2023, as reported by Badische Neueste Nachrichten. The company promised high returns from cultivating cannabis plants for CBD extraction, but the expected payouts never materialized. The contracts were concluded exclusively digitally; no printed copy existed.

The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, based on consumer protection provisions of the German Civil Code, which provide a right of withdrawal for such online transactions. In return, the investor must hand back ownership of the plants, which remain in the company’s greenhouses.

The startup aimed to profit from the growing CBD market but suffered from price declines and falling demand. Prices in Switzerland had already dropped significantly in 2021.
