Lawsuit Alert! Telehealth ketamine company Mindbloom, its compounding pharmacy, and physicians have been sued for wrongful death. I say this while underscoring that ketamine has been proven safe and effective for mental health treatment when administered properly.

To be clear, the following are allegations from the complaint only and will have to be proven in the lawsuit:

– A 27-year-old died from “ketamine toxicity in the setting of hypertension,” after receiving ketamine lozenges in the mail.

– Allegedly, Mindbloom and the providers mailed the ketamine despite a history of hypertension, tachycardia and substance abuse, and despite flagging him to get therapist approval before obtaining a prescription.

– Apparently, no further approval was obtained before a prescription was mailed.

This type of tragic incident is entirely preventable, whoever is to blame.

I continue to believe in the benefits of ketamine therapy for mental health treatment – I have used it myself for anxiety – when provided using proper controls and supervision.
