Great to chat with James who became somewhat more involved with changing attitudes to cannabis after an encounter with the NSW police whilst spending a year in Australia

He’s now trying to build an education network about cannabis and using the medium of film and documentary is part of his arsenal.

We talk about his time engaging with growers in NW Pakistan and how things have changed in that part of the world since the Taliban came back into power. James also learnt about various corporate type outfits quietly moving in and making themselves known, he couldn’t tell me too much but it sounds like the classic extractive industry playbook may be happening behind closed doors in that part of the world

Listen and learn more.

Thanks James

Background in sales & operations, most recently running operations for an Australian cannabis clinic with 12,000+ patients. Now building two things from that experience.

ClinicBucket: Helping European cannabis clinics fix the leaks in patient acquisition and retention. Getting the right patients in, onboarding them, and keeping them. For operators who want predictable growth.

Two Birds One Stoned: Independent cannabis media in 14 languages. Educational articles, audio and animated videos. First documentary, Humans of Cannabis: Pakistan, filmed solo over two months.

Looking to create better conversations around cannabis.

Yo, so for the last two months I’ve been travelling through Pakistan, making a cannabis documentary series about the people behind the plant there.

I went because I was curious to understand where the plant we consume, actually comes from, and what’s happened to those who’ve grown it the longest. This journey took me to a few places…

Experiencing the Sufi shrines in Lahore. Speaking to farmers of Tirah Valley, displaced in Peshawar. Trekking through the Hindu Kush mountains, and finishing on the beach in Karachi at sunset.

Cannabis has been grown in this country for thousands of years. How did the people who know it best, end up locked out of the industry, built on their work?

That’s what the documentary tried to unfold, along with a few other bits. There’s a real lack of information on the subject of cannabis, for how common the plant is worldwide, in me auld humble opinion. This is one small attempt to push that conversation forward.

Humans of Cannabis: Pakistan. 4-6 episodes through summer and autumn.
