The arrest took place on 8th May at Melilla Airport, where officers from the National Police became suspicious of the passenger during routine document checks.
Suspicious behaviour raised alarm
According to police, the man was behaving oddly and gave inconsistent answers when questioned. After identifying him they discovered he already had an active warrant for his arrest issued by the Spanish Courts.
During a superficial search, officers noticed objects concealed under his clothing. A more thorough inspection carried out by the Border Operational Group (GOF) of the Provincial Immigration and Borders Brigade revealed six packages taped to his abdomen, back and legs.
Inside were 697 individually wrapped pellets of hashish, weighing a total of 7,574 grams — more than 7.5 kilograms.
The suspect had planned to fly to Gran Canaria via Madrid.
