Bioxyne is the parent company of the Breathe Life Sciences Group which last month announced that South of Scotland Enterprise was providing a five-year £500,000 loan facility and a grant award of £348,250 to support the project. It has also received assistance from Scottish Borders Council.
BLS has strong ties to the Scottish Borders, with directors Gavin and Andrew Ogilvie hailing from Melrose.
It is quoted on the Australian Stock Exchange and Frankfurt Borse and manufactures over 200 brands and 2.5 million products per year.
Today it said it will hire an initial 36 workers and because of substantial growth in the market, it hopes to increase its payroll to 100 in three years.
The base will manufacture patient-ready cannabis medicines for both domestic and international markets, with global demand anticipated to also grow in coming years. For security reasons, the exact location of the new facility is not being announced.
The number of active cannabis patients in the UK has grown to 80,000, purchasing approximately £250m worth of cannabis-based medicinal products in 2025 and the number of active patients is expected to surpass 190,000 by 2029.

BLS quickly became a significant player in the health and wellness industry in Europe, the UK, and Japan.
In 2020 BLS entered the Australian market and grew rapidly into the market-leading manufacturer of novel medicines such as MDMA,
Psilocybin, and cannabis.
Sam is the CEO and founder of Breathe International Ltd, which became Bioxyne’s largest shareholder following its all-share acquisition of BLS in 2023.
In 2023, at 29 years of age, Sam became the youngest ever CEO of an Australian publicly listed company.

Jason Hine was appointed to the Board on 19 May 2023.
Jason was previously the GM Commercial Operations for ECS Botanics Limited, Australia’s largest medicinal cannabis and hemp food wellness business.
The ECS food and wellness business delivers high quality Tasmanian grown/sourced hemp food and wellness products into the Australian grocery sector
via the large grocery chains, regional distributors, and a growing bulk supply and B2C channel.
Jason has been CEO, COO and Managing Director of a number of companies in various industries over a 30-year career.

Guy Robertson was appointed CFO and Company Secretary on 1 September 2016.
Guy is an experienced finance executive, having held the positions of Director, Company Secretary and Chief Financial Officer
