Media Report: British law student jailed in Dubai over ‘single line of cocaine’ is set to be freed

British law student jailed for 25 years in a ‘hellhole’ Dubai prison over an alleged ‘single line of cocaine’ following a trial held in Arabic will be freed.

Mia O’Brien, 23, was arrested in the Middle Eastern city in October 2024 after 50g of cocaine – worth around £2,500 in the UK – was allegedly found in a flat stormed by police during a party.

She was convicted of drug supply and possession charges on July 25 this year after pleading not guilty to the offences and was handed a lengthy term at Al-Awir Central Prison as well as a fine of around £100k.

Her cellmate – a mother and fellow Briton – previously told The Sun that Ms O’Brien had apparently told her she had only used ‘one line of cocaine’.

The student is now set to be released and returned to the UK, her delighted mother Danielle McKenna, 46, has revealed.

She posted on Facebook: ‘Thank you so much everyone, am still in shock, am buzzing, can’t wait to give her the tightest cuddle ever.
