| The Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) has established a new item category for Dual Chamber Vape Carts, effective July 28, 2026.
A dual chamber vape cartridge is a vape product that contains two separate chambers, each filled with inhalable concentrate from a different production batch. Some dual chamber vape cartridges also allow the contents of both chambers to be combined into a single draw.
Pursuant to Administrative Rule 420.201(1)(m), “Final form” means the form a marijuana product is in when it is available for sale by a marijuana sales location, excluding consumer packaging. For marijuana products intended for inhalation, final form refers to the marijuana concentrate contained within an e-cigarette or a vaping device.
Processors creating a new Dual Chamber Vape Cartridge package from source packages of bulk concentrate must create the new package as a production batch.
Final form testing for dual chamber vape cartridges requires testing of:
- Each individual chamber in the inhalation device; and
- The combined chamber draw, if the product is designed to allow both chambers to be used simultaneously
If a dual chamber vape cartridge fails initial testing and is eligible for remediation or retesting, each failed chamber must receive two passing retests. If the product includes a combined chamber draw, that configuration must also receive two passing retests before the product can receive a Retest Passed result.
Licensed Processors and Safety Compliance Facilities have until August 28, 2026, to implement new standard operating procedures that facilitate the use of the new item category and proper sampling and testing methods.
Please review the Metrc Support Bulletin for instructions on package creation and testing requirements for the new Dual Chamber Vape Cartridge item category.
