WORTHINGTON — A Los Angeles, California, man is charged in Nobles County Fifth District Court after he was found to have more than 18 pounds of cocaine in his vehicle.
Chad Michael King, 37, faces four felony counts of first-degree drugs (aggravated sale, aggravated possession, sale and possession) and importing controlled substances across state borders.
According to the law enforcement report, just before midnight on Feb. 4, a Worthington Police officer witnessed a vehicle driving east with a bright object hanging from the rearview mirror and blocking the driver’s view. When the driver, King, failed to signal a turn, the officer initiated a traffic stop. The bright object was the driver’s phone. According to the officer, King’s pulse was racing and his breath was rapid and shallow.
King gave the officer conflicting information, such as that he was visiting a friend, then that he was DJ-ing a wedding. King told the officer he was driving a rental car, which had a rental agreement that expired Feb. 6. The wedding was Feb. 7.
