Morocco: Marrakech Customs Arrest Brazilian Couple Smuggling Cocaine

The couple had ingested a total of 100 capsules containing over one kilogram of cocaine in their intestines.

Rabat – Customs authorities at the Marrakech-Menara International Airport arrested a Brazilian couple on Sunday on suspicion of being involved in international drug trafficking.

The couple, aged 26 and 29, were arrested after the airport authorities suspected that they were smuggling drugs in their intestines, according to a report from 2M.

The subsequent investigation unveiled that the couple had ingested a total of 100 capsules containing one kilogram and 260 grams of cocaine in their intestines.

The Brazilian nationals were placed under police custody pending investigation, as authorities try to determine whether there is any additional criminal activity.

The news comes less than a week after Morocco’s national police department had thwarted a major drug trafficking operation involving over 5.4 tonnes of cannabis. Initial investigation indicates that the drugs, which were transported on a cargo truck, were destined for Europe through the Tangier Med Port.
