Man convicted of Sumner County burglary after dropping Bible inscribed with his name at crime scene

Police say he got high on cocaine before breaking into a Hendersonville house while the homeowner was asleep.

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A North Carolina man is facing up to almost three decades in prison after being convicted of burglarizing a Sumner County home while high on cocaine.

Sumner County District Attorney General Thomas Dean announced that a jury convicted 51-year-old Kippy Lee Lynch of aggravated burglary, burglary, theft, attempt to commit burglary, DUI and simple possession of cocaine in connection with the January 2023 break-in.

The prosecutor said on the night of January 13, Lynch and his co-defendant “got high on cocaine and entered a home in the Island Brook subdivision of Hendersonville while the owner was inside asleep.”

They filled multiple backpacks with the homeowner’s belongings and took a handgun from inside the victims’ car. But when they tried to run back to their car, they dropped multiple stolen items and an incriminating belonging.

“As Lynch and his co-defendant tried to escape on foot with the stolen property back to their vehicle, which had been parked outside of the subdivision to avoid detection, several items of stolen property were left on the ground and later located by law enforcement,” Dean wrote in a Facebook post.

“One of those items was a backpack containing a significant amount of the victim’s property as well as a Bible inscribed with Lynch’s name.”
