All licenses granted to companies that process cannabis for medicinal purposes will be reviewed.” The government of North Macedonia recently announced that it will begin reviewing the licenses granted to medicinal cannabis companies, following several seizures of cannabis destined for the illicit market. According to the Alsat media outlet, this decision by the executive body comes “after several abuses committed by these entities, with cannabis, instead of being destined for medicinal purposes, ending up on the black market.”
In Strumica, more than 100 kilos were seized and in some cases, police seized cannabis worth millions of euros, while some companies had their licenses confiscated. CannaReporter has not yet been able to verify which companies were targeted, but according to the Macedonian newspaper, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski warned that the public will soon understand which minister, from which entity and to which companies granted permission to process cannabis.
