Greek police in cooperation with authorities in North Macedonia and Kosovo have broken a drug smuggling gang that sent Albanian marijuana to Turkey hidden inside truck shipments of waste for recycling.
A police statement said two men were arrested Friday in the greater Thessaloniki region, in connection with a cargo of nearly 325 kilograms of the drug that had an estimated street value of more than €700,000. They were only identified as foreign nationals.
An arrest warrant has been issued for a third suspect. The crackdown followed a tip-off.
The police statement said the gang sent the drugs in long-haul trucks carrying paper and cardboard for recycling in Turkey. Efforts are under way to identify and arrest other smugglers.
