Six of the nine cannabis operators in Carpinteria that were served with notices of intent to revoke their license — after the operators failed to meet the March 18 deadline to have carbon scrubber technology installed — have filed appeals.
In 2025, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors ordered that all cannabis operators in the Carpinteria Valley have to install carbon scrubbers — used to remove the cannabis odor before it leaves greenhouses — by March 18, 2026.
The nine businesses that did not meet the deadline were notified of intent to revoke their licenses in early April by Santa Barbara County. According to Daisy Weber with First District County Supervisor Roy Lee’s office, two of the nine businesses are now in compliance, and one was found to not have an operational license prior to receiving the notice.
The remaining six operators have filed appeals and will remain operational during the 60-day appeal process.
