South Africa – Senior Justice Dept official Mokulubete: ‘Cannabis Act Will Definitely Come into Law This Year’

Senior Justice Department official Makubela Mokulubete (pictured here) says the long-awaited Cannabis for Private Purposes Act will become operational before year end. He says 2 807 public submissions were received on the Act before the 5 March 2026 deadine. He said these had been reviewed and the final regulations would be published soon. He told Cannabiz Africa that once the Act came into law, cannabis woud automatically be removed from the schedules of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.

Mokulubete says DTIC must deal with commercialization and legalization of private clubs, these are not within the remit of the Cannabis Act.
