SB5 banning all products just passed unanimously out of the TexasSenate Affairs Cmtee during the first hearing of the SpecialSession

Senator comments:

“Hemp is the new meth;”
cannabis use disorder contributes to the daily ]veteran suicides;
“the Uvalde shooter was a pot user, it messed with his judgment;
“Many people in jail have THC psychosis, not just meth;”
“Indian hemp insanity is what we are seeing now;”
“Drug dealers have been legalized;”
“It would cost taxpayers more to regulate than to ban;”
“23% of elderly in ER for ingestion of cannabis diagnosed with dementia within 5 years (Canada study on legal marijuana, not hemp)”
“Having to test hemp products would set crime labs and justice system back on handling [worse] crimes;”
SB2024 that we passed banning vapes was a coup,”
“Banning hemp THC is the only sane path forward ….”
etc.
After roughly 6 hours of hearings on SB5, the next step is a Senate vote.
Call and write your Senators telling them why they should vote against a total ban on consumable hemp products to try to prevent this bill from passing!
Then the next step is the House version of SB5. I expect we will see a TABC bill again writing approved hemp products (capped dosage beverages and edibles) into the TX Alcohol Code, which would eliminate most small businesses and products.
Special Session is only 30 days and moves quickly.
New laws would take effect September 1.

Below is SB 5.
