Telehealth Physician
Job Description
Join a patient-centred medicinal cannabis clinic delivering high-quality care via telehealth. You’ll conduct assessments, manage prescriptions, provide education, and ensure full regulatory compliance. You’ll work closely with a doctor support team and cross-functional colleagues to improve care and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Consultations & Patient Assessment
- Provide timely, high-quality telehealth consultations using the clinic’s approved platform and schedule.
- Review patient histories and documentation (medical records, chronic conditions, nurse assessments, validated scales).
- Discuss treatment options and obtain/document informed consent in line with clinic SOPs.
- Follow internal procedures for eligibility checks, treatment initiation, and discharge.
- Ensure consultation charges are processed at appointment time.
Follow-up Care & Treatment Optimisation
- Conduct follow-up reviews to assess outcomes and adjust treatment plans.
- Seamlessly continue care for patients transferring from other prescribers.
- Action flagged tasks in the practice management system (PMS) promptly, including supply alternatives and escalations.
- Complete all notes and tasks by the end of each shift to maintain continuity of care.
Prescription Management & Compliance
- Prescribe in line with Good Medical Practice and relevant legislation for Schedule 4 & Schedule 8 medicines.
- For non-Authorised Prescribers, submit SAS-B applications on the same day as consults.
- Respond to administrative requests (rescripts, treatment letters, discharge approvals) in a timely manner.
- Maintain compliance with Real-Time Prescription Monitoring (RTPM) and document outcomes.
Education & Cross-Functional Projects
- Provide clear patient education on therapies, side effects, and the status of “unapproved” medicines.
- Contribute to internal education (content/feedback), participate in clinical discussions, and help refine best practices.
- Collaborate on process improvement projects with clinical and operations teams.
Clinical Documentation & Governance
- Record accurate clinical notes, prescriptions, and plans in the PMS per AHPRA and Good Medical Practice standards.
- Complete mandatory training and remain current with regulatory changes (prescribing, adverse events).
- Perform manual prescription/health management workflows when required to avoid care disruptions.
- Report adverse events to the TGA within required timeframes and complete periodic reporting as directed.
- Notify the clinic of any regulatory communications received.
OKRs & KPIs
- Meet individual and departmental OKRs/KPIs set by clinical leadership (e.g., consult quality, documentation timeliness, compliance metrics, patient outcomes).
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- MBBS/MD (or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
- AHPRA general registration as a Medical Practitioner with no restrictions (limited/provisional not eligible).
- Minimum PGY4 (may consider late PGY3 with strong, relevant experience).
- 6+ months experience within the Australian healthcare system.
- Strong clinical assessment/diagnostic skills; excellent communication and patient-education capability in telehealth settings.
- High attention to detail in documentation, compliance, and treatment planning.
- Familiarity with prescribing under Good Medical Practice, including S8 medicines.
- Authorised Prescriber (AP) for medicinal cannabis preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Registration/enrolment in RTPM systems where applicable preferred.
- Current satisfactory National Police Check.
