SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. —
Two people were arrested after authorities discovered an illegal marijuana cultivation operation containing approximately 2,000 plants in San Benito County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office said deputies served a search warrant Thursday in the 7000 block of Lovers Lane with assistance from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, two people who had been camping along the brush line near the cultivation site ran away as law enforcement arrived.
Authorities said Sgt. Simpson used a drone to help Deputy Miguel quickly locate and apprehend one of the subjects. The second person was found a short time later.
During the search, investigators discovered a pump system powered by a generator that authorities said was being used to divert water from Pacheco Creek to support the cultivation operation.
Investigators also found a large amount of unclaimed U.S. currency and a .22-caliber rifle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Both people were arrested on several felony charges related to the alleged cultivation operation. Their names and specific charges were not immediately released.
