Uganda: Linked In Post By Ubuntu Pty Ltd Highlights The Same Old Story.. Local Political & Military Power & International Capital Locks Out Smallholders

Uganda’s Million-Dollar Hemp Export: Global Profit vs. Local Exclusion

The news that Ugandan-grown medical cannabis is lining international shelves is often celebrated as an economic milestone. But from an Ubuntu Hemp perspective, we must ask: Who is actually benefiting?

Right now, multi-million-dollar supply chains are thriving, but local Ugandan smallholder farmers are completely locked out. Uganda offers no legal pathway for everyday citizens to cultivate industrial hemp.

Instead, the legal framework strictly favors heavily guarded corporate enclaves and massive international conglomerates.

To understand the scale of this issue, look at the global corporate stakeholders pulling the strings:

🇺🇬 The Local Monopoly:
High-ranking political and military figures are directly entering the market. A prime example is hashtagGeneralKahindaOtafiire’s Farm, operating on the heavily contested hashtagNjeruStockFarm land in the Buikwe District, utilizing massive acreage under state security while everyday farmers face arrest for touching the exact same plant.

🇺🇬 The Local Corporate Gatekeepers: The domestic market is tightly controlled by hashtagIndustrialHempUgandaLtd, run by CEO hashtagLaubenKabagambe and former MP hashtagBenjaminCadet, alongside directors hashtagGeorgeWilliamBarigye and hashtagSamAhamya. They hold the exclusive corporate keys to the local market while ordinary citizens are barred from entry.

🇩🇪 Germany: hashtagCantourageGroupSE (Berlin) acts as the primary master wholesaler, funneling Ugandan-grown strains like hashtagGlueberryOG into thousands of licensed European pharmacies.

🇮🇱 Israel: hashtagTogetherPharmaLtd (Tel Aviv) owns the massive, high-tech 30,000 sqm greenhouse facilities in Uganda in joint-venture partnerships, controlling the extraction and processing pipeline.

🇨🇦 Canada: hashtagSupremeCannabisCompany and major multi-state operators (MSOs) have historically positioned themselves to secure long-term bulk Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) supply agreements out of East Africa.

The “Ubuntu” Disconnect:

While these international corporate giants and high-ranking local officials secure lucrative export monopolies to supply Western markets, African farmers are barred from using this versatile plant for sustainable local textiles, building materials, or community wellness.

True agricultural progress should uplift local communities and provide economic sovereignty to the people who tend the soil. It is time to dismantle exclusive corporate monopolies and advocate for inclusive hemp policies that empower local smallholders!
