Uzbekistan Seizes 191 kg of Hashish in Smuggling Attempt from Afghanistan

The Kabul Tribune (KT) – Uzbek media reported the seizure of 191 kilograms of hashish in a smuggling attempt at the country’s border with Afghanistan.

According to the newspaper UzDaily, the drugs were discovered on Thursday at the Ayritom border crossing in the Surkhandarya region. The shipment was found in a cargo truck traveling from Afghanistan to Kazakhstan.

The truck was carrying 750 pressure cookers, officially declared as a 4.1-ton cargo in shipping documents. However, initial scans using inspection systems revealed suspicious items.

A more detailed inspection showed that some of the cookers had a double-layer structure, with the drugs hidden in the space between the layers.

Authorities said the narcotics were found inside 210 of the cookers, with an estimated street value of over 5 million US dollars.

Uzbek customs officials said investigations into the case are ongoing.
